Health challenge helps our special care babies

Posted on October 17, 2012

People are transforming themselves during an eight-week weight challenge to raise funds for the Special Care Nursery at Bundaberg Hospital.

Bundaberg Health Services Foundation manager Maria Burnet said the fundraiser would buy medical equipment for the ward that was non-government funded.

“The special care nursery has a number of items on its wish list that we are aiming to buy from resuscitation trolleys to recliner chairs for new mothers,’’ she said.

Several Bundaberg businesses are involved in the running of the Health and Wellness Challenge which is aiming to increase the awareness of obesity, obesity-related illness and associated health care costs.

Bundaberg Crossfit manager Alec Munn said a team of health professionals and consultant would assist participants during the challenge.

“We hope to promote not only weight loss, but also a complete body and life transformation for people taking part,’’ Mr Munn said.

There are two winning categories in the challenge (1) the greatest percentage of weight loss and (2) the most funds raised for charity.
